چکیده

Metabolic Syndrome (MS) has become a major health hazard in the current world by triggering cardiovascular and renal pathologies. Chia seed is rich source of bioactive food components (n-3 fatty acids, antioxidants fiber, among others) with several benefits on health. Therefore, we hypothesized that intake chia could counteract kidney failure MS protecting against lipid accretion, oxidative stress fibrosis this tissue. An experimental model was induced feeding male Wistar rats for 3 months sucrose-rich diet (SRD) containing corn oil as fat. During next months, half animals continued SRD. The other received SRD which replaced Salvia hispanica L. seeds (chia) (SRD+C). control group reference (RD). In MS, dietary administration significantly decreased albumin glucose urine levels (p<0.05). reverted (SiriusRed-collagen staining), morphological anomalies altered markers (PEPCK FBPase) metabolism These effects were accompanied decrease accumulation triglycerides biomarkers (ROS peroxides) mechanisms included down-regulation key enzymes acid biosynthesis (ACC, FAS G6PDH) up-regulation antioxidant defenses (GSH, GR GPx activities). Dietary counteracted an indicating it be exceptional clinical management disorder.

Chemical and Functional Properties of Chia Seed (Salvia hispanica L.) Gum

Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) constitutes a potential alternative raw material and ingredient in food industry applications due to its dietary fiber content. Gum can be extracted from its dietary fiber fractions for use as an additive to control viscosity, stability, texture, and consistency in food systems. The gum extracted from chia seeds was characterized to determine their quality and potenti...

Dietary chia seed (Salvia hispanica L.) rich in alpha-linolenic acid improves adiposity and normalises hypertriacylglycerolaemia and insulin resistance in dyslipaemic rats.

The present study investigates the benefits of the dietary intake of chia seed (Salvia hispanica L.) rich in alpha-linolenic acid and fibre upon dyslipidaemia and insulin resistance (IR), induced by intake of a sucrose-rich (62.5 %) diet (SRD). To achieve these goals two sets of experiments were designed: (i) to study the prevention of onset of dyslipidaemia and IR in Wistar rats fed during 3 w...

Chia seed (Salvia Hispanica L.) added yogurt reduces short-term food intake and increases satiety: randomised controlled trial

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Several studies have reported that consumption of Salvia Hispanica L.,commonly known as chia seed, may exert beneficial effects on health outcomes. The main purpose of this study was to examine the influence of chia seed consumption as a mid-morning snack on short-term satiety. SUBJECTS/METHODS Subjects (n = 24) were tested using a randomized, cross-over design consistin...
